Hi, I’m Narong!
I have started writing this blog for the sole purpose of documenting my life journey, and this place would be my sanctuary where I can unravel my thoughts, express my emotions, monitor my growth, and connect with others on a profound level. I, by no means, am trying to change the world.
I believe each of us has a unique story to tell, and we all have different ways to paint ourselves. Personally, I feel I would be annoying other people with the excess sharing on social media such as Instagram or Facebook in the form of posts and stories. However, journals are supposed to be frequent and “excessive”, so social media alone is probably not enough for me, and blogging allows me to do just that. Besides, I figured every small step to blogging is an opportunity to learn or showcase different skills and knowledge. For example, I chose to build this blog from “scratch”.
Instead of using a ready-to-go services like Wix, Squarespace or hosted WordPress, I chose a different route. Obviously, it would be rather foolish to re-invent all the wheels, and what I did was choosing the “right” technologies and tools and stitch them together. I decided to learn all the technical requirements to self-host this blog (I’ll probably write a more detailed post on what technologies I chose, how and why).
I began by choosing a domain name that reflects my identity and purpose. Since, I’d be using this website for personal and not business reasons, I thought “chronicles” would best represent my intents. These posts are just notes or journals of my life journey. “NRIX” is an acronym: ‘NR’ stands for Narong, and ‘IX’ represents 9, or Ninth, in Roman numerals.
I searched and purchased the domain name from Cloudflare to benefit from its free SSL certificates.
Then…….I spent almost 3 days straight trying to set up the blog. I had to purchase a virtual server. In simple terms, a server is a computer that does not shut down without legit reasons. We need it, so that the site can run 24/7. I opted for Digital Ocean, and spent a decent effort configuring the Linux-based server, so I can conveniently access it remotely using SSH. The next step was to download and install WordPress (a content management system popular for blogging). To make it work, I’d also have to configure the Database Server on the virtual server to connect to the WordPress web application.
And the rest followed! It’s never going to be a finished project because I will be experimenting with different tools and technologies as I learn more and more about lifestyle blogging and the ever-advancing world of technologies.
A New Beginning
“I believe that each of us has a unique story to tell, a perspective that is waiting to be shared with the world. Writing allows me to do just that, to weave words into captivating narratives that ignite the imagination, spark conversations, and touch the hearts of those who stumble upon my blog.”
